Kitchen Function: Questions for Thought
Meeting new clients I always ask for their inspiration, what type of feeling do you want to invoke when you walk in to your space & what is & isn’t working for you - how can we make this space function better ? These conversations are important & I have a lot of questions. There is a surprising amount of psychology to designing spaces.
When Function & Aesthetics meet you can bring joy & love for a space beyond your dreams. I want my clients to walk in their kitchen and want to cook family dinner, host a kids pool party or have an amazing Friendsgiving.
Some Questions for thought:
How do you prep food? How close to the stove do you want knives, silverware, trash, cookware & potholders.
who does the cooking, cleaning, dishes, and grocery shopping?
Do you host holiday’s, dinners, or events? Does your space allow you do it the way you like?
How many utensils, flatware, Plates, serving dishes, Tupperware, small appliances, pots, pans, cutting boards, knives, kitchen gagits, do you have?
Where is your trash bins, microwave, paper towels, & cleaning supplies currently and does that work?
I think you get the gist! When Designing a kitchen there is more then Cabinet color and countertops selections. We are choosing how you will function everyday with family & friends. Asking these questions help my client think “ I never thought about that!”
Knowing how much of something they have, if they prefer drawers or doors, do you want uppers or glass cabinets( who puts the dishes away) how many steps you will be taking to get to something. Their dynamics of their routine and Food storage.
Can you see the thoughts behind how your kitchen functions? If you could imagine you kitchen what is the perfect layout?
Have you walked into a kitchen and thought :
“ This layout doesn’t make sense? or “there isn’t enough of _____" ( fill in the blank)
“Where do we put the microwave?, “how can I fit my pots in these cabinets”
This is a sign that you need to speak to a designer when designing your kitchen!
