All In The Name of Flow
While some may find me crazy & might find it unnecessary to move things such as bathrooms because of the location isn’t exactly ideal. Call me Crazy! But I moved out 1/2 bath across the house for better flow & symmetry. Our 1/2 bath looked like a coat closet in the middle of our entry way hall. the door opened outward and I have been hit many of times when people come out of the bathroom with the door. I knew when we bought the home we needed to move the bathroom. We finalized the move this last oct. and I couldn’t be happier.
The door to the left in the hall way is the bathroom a long skinny room where the door couldn’t swing in. I contemplated a pocket door, I thought about removing it completely but we really needed the 1/2 bath!
We Decided moving it to the other side of the home where our 2nd living space, laundry, bar area and back yard access is allowing people from the pool to easily get to the bathroom. In the Future we will have an out door shower for the pool but for now a 1/2 bath is good.
This is one of the first photos we took of the home before we started demo in this area. The pool table is obviously gone, the bar had been demoed to make way for a new and improved bar. To the left of the old bar we are putting the 1/2 bath!
Of course nothing is as easy as it seem in construction and we ended up having to find the main sewer to get to 3” pipe for the toilet. This means 3 Large holes in concrete to tap in to the plumbing. I have to say it was the moment I thought is this too much? We Ripped up my office floor which I am happy for! But cut a large holes to access the plumbing main.
Code calls for 3” sewer for toilets and of course we thought there was 3” next to the laundry but nope!
Removing the bathroom, caping plumbing, creating a wider entry hallway, A inlet for our piano to be placed at the time and later we changed the use for the space. Now the framing up the new bathroom only took 1 weeks with the plumbing escapade. We created a bathroom keeping the existing bar sqft for a new footprint which is happily installed as I write this.
We now have a 1/2 bathroom that has better flow, easy access & the guest love! I cant wait to share the finishing our inspiration, color scheme & finishing touches!
Sneek Peek of a not finished product but I do love it!
